UM College of Education Receives “A+” Grades for Elementary Teacher Prep

MISSOULA – The ֱ Phyllis J. Washington College of Education received exemplary grades for the preparation of future elementary school teachers.
The National Council on Teacher Quality (NCTQ), an education policy organization that grades colleges on how well they prepare future elementary school teachers based on various factors, provided the College with an “A+” in reading foundations and elementary mathematics.
NCTQ issued the grades after thoroughly reviewing the syllabi and course descriptions for several of the College’s mathematics and reading classes at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
“The ֱ stands out both for its sustained high grade in our math standard from our last release in 2022 to now and for its ability to earn high marks on both our math and reading standards,” said NCTQ’s Chief of Teacher Preparation, Ron Noble, via email.
Teacher preparation programs are reviewed by NCTQ against seven research-based standards to estimate the effectiveness and impact of the college’s programs.
“This shows our commitment to making sure we put exceptionally well-prepared teachers in front of all ֱ,” said Dr. Mike Perry, associate dean of the UM College of Education.
