Introduction
The UM System Logon Notification Banner Standard defines the implementation of logon banners for University IT systems in the University's computing environment.
This Standard applies to all information technology systems that process information at the Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ and the UM System of affiliated campuses.
Definitions
Notification Banner: A text display message presented to a user through a graphical or command-line interface.
STANDARD
General
All IT systems that display a user login which is visible to the University computer users and the general public shall display the University's logon banner. The banner notifies any person encountering or using University IT resources of the requirement to adhere to the University’s Acceptable Use of Technology Resources Policy. The banner also serves to notify any person who accesses a UM system of the private nature of our networked environments, and that monitoring is taking place to ensure authorized use only.
Text
The standard notification logon banner is:
This computer system is the property of the Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ System. It is intended for authorized use only. By accessing this system, all users acknowledge notice of, and agree to comply with, the Ñý¼§Ö±²¥’s Acceptable Use of Technology Resources Policy (AUP).
By continuing to use this system, you indicate your awareness of and consent to the terms and conditions of use.
LOG OFF IMMEDIATELY if you do not agree to the conditions stated in this warning.
Responsibility
Systems and Endpoint administrators are responsible for implementing logon banners where applicable in their systems.
Procedures
The UM Information Security Advisory Council will review and, if necessary, revise the UM Logon Notification Standard once a year.
