School of Law Celebrates Historic Gift

On Friday, September 11, 2015, the School of Law celebrated the extraordinary generosity of the Blewett family with a ceremony marking the naming of the Alexander Blewett III School of Law at the Ñý¼§Ö±²¥.

The ceremony, which took place at the conclusion of the State Bar of Montana annual meeting, brought together over 150 alumni, friends, and guests, including Paulette Brown, President of the American Bar Association. The is available on the School of Law's YouTube channel.

ABA President Paulette Brown Sits Down with Students

The School of Law was honored to host Paulette Brown, President of the American Bar Association during her visit to Missoula for the annual meeting of the State Bar of Montana. Ms. Brown spoke with Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ in the Castles Center for Professional Development. Brown is the first woman of color to head the American Bar Association and serves as co-chair of the firm-wide Diversity & Inclusion Committee at Locke Lord LLP.

John Morgan Visits with Montana Law Students

Attorney, entrepreneur and author John Morgan of Morgan & Morgan, Orlando, FL, provided the second Dean's Lecture to Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ on Friday, September 25, 2015. During a 45 minute talk, that was both humorous and serious, Morgan, who serves as a Trustee of the University of Florida Levin College of Law, provided advice to Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ on a range of topics, including from his book, "You Can't Teach Hungry… Creating the Multimillion Dollar Law Firm." Morgan, who is the chairman of the new .law domain (see related story in the ABA Journal) also participated in a CLE panel on the future of law practice during his first visit to the School.

Former Chief Justice Jean Turnage

Former Chief Justice Jean Turnage, a 1951 graduate of the School of Law, passed Sunday, September 27, 2015. Turnage was the first enrolled member of an Indian tribe elected to statewide office in Montana – as chief justice of the Montana Supreme Court, no less – and one of what is likely a relatively short list of people who have served in all three branches of state government.
