The UM Graduate School recently awarded a Bertha Morton Scholarship to Denise La Fontaine, second-year law student in the Blewett School of Law, for the 2022-2023 academic year.
The award places LaFontaine among the top five percent of the University’s graduate Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ in academic performance, research and creative activities. Approximately 20 graduate Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ from UM received this $3,000 scholarship each year.
"This scholarship will help alleviate some of the financial burden that law school carries," said LaFontaine. "I am thankful for the financial support that this scholarship offers because it will allow me to focus more on my studies and the clinical work that I will be undertaking in the spring."
LaFontaine plays to graduate in May 2023 and pursue work as a criminal prosecutor.
"I would like to work with individuals struggling with substance use disorders in a treatment court type of setting or work with child victims and juvenile offenders," she said.
