MISSOULA – The Ñý¼§Ö±²¥’s spring 2025 enrollment is up by 4.3% compared to spring 2024, continuing UM’s exciting trend of growth.

“The trend is clear, more Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ are choosing the Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ than at any point in the past decade,” UM President Seth Bodnar said. “With student enrollment, retention and graduation rates growing, it’s a great time to be a Griz.”

UM’s student enrollment increase this spring mirrors the on-campus growth from fall, when the University welcomed its largest first-year class in nine years and experienced its largest year-over-year growth rate in 15 years.

UM’s commitment to preparing Montana’s high school Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ for higher education and workforce development through dual enrollment helped power the spring semester growth. This spring, 1,127 high school Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ are taking classes at Missoula College – UM’s two-year college affiliate – bringing the total of dually enrolled Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ to the highest on record. UM offers high school Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ up to two college courses at no cost.

“When a student pursues dual enrollment at UM while still in high school, they get a head start that helps them accelerate into college, lower the cost of their education and graduate on time,” Bodnar said.           

This spring, UM bolstered its overall headcount by also increasing undergraduate enrollment 2.5%, graduate student enrollment by nearly 1% and Missoula College enrollment by 2.6%. The University also welcomed 732 new Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ to campus this spring, a 10.2% increase over spring 2024.

Overall, nearly 70% of all Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ enrolled in UM are Montana residents, with 30% of Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ attending from out of the state. The demographics of UM’s growing student body continue to reflect the state as a whole:

• Student veteran enrollment increased 11.7% over spring 2024.
• Native American student enrollment increased 4.6% over spring 2024.
• The number of first-generation college Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ at UM increased by 30.8% over spring 2024.

In December, more than 900 Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ graduated from UM at the conclusion of the fall 2024 semester.
