Academic Standing
Academic standing is determined by a student's institutional cumulative Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ GPA.
Transfer GPAs from other institutions are not factored into a student's cumulative Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ GPA nor a student's academic standing.
If a grade is altered after it has been posted to the transcript, the student's academic standing will remain the same. Additionally, academic standing is not retroactively updated when a course repeat alters the GPA.

Good Standing
A student is considered to be in good standing when their cumulative GPA is a 2.0 or greater.
Honors Designations
To qualify for the Dean's List (honor roll), Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ must meet the following criteria:
- Undergraduate Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ only
- Semester GPA of 3.50 or higher
- Received grades of A or B in at least 9 credits
- No grades of C+, C, C-, D+, D, D-, F, NC, or NCR
To qualify for the President's 4.0 List, Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ must meet the following criteria:
- Undergraduate Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ only
- Semester GPA of 4.0
- Received a grade of A in at least 9 credits
- No grades of B+, B, B-, C+, C, C-, D+, D, D-, F, NC, or NCR
Academic Warning
Formerly known as "academic probation"
An undergraduate student will be placed on academic warning if at the end of any semester their cumulative Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ GPA drops below 2.0 on a 4.0 scale.
The effect of the academic warning is to serve notice to the student that the quality of their work is below an acceptable level and that continuation of unsatisfactory work during their next semester of enrollment will result in academic suspension.
Academic warning status is recorded on the student's academic transcript and semester grades.
Students placed on warning should contact their academic advisor immediately to seek assistance and direction.
Academic warning status is automatically lifted once the student's cumulative GPA rises above 2.0.
While on academic warning, a student's semester GPA must not be below a 2.0; otherwise, the student will be placed on academic suspension and must take at least one semester off prior to returning.
Academic Suspension
An undergraduate student will be placed on academic suspension at the end of any semester if the student was on academic warning during the prior semester of attendance and the student's cumulative Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ GPA remains below 2.0 on a 4.0 scale. Academic suspensions are noted on final grades and academic transcripts.
Exceptions are made if the student earns at least a 2.0 GPA for the current semester without raising the cumulative Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ grade average to the required minimum. In such cases, the student remains on academic warning.
Reinstatement will require, at minimum, one full semester of non-enrollment at any campus of the Montana University System. A student placed on academic suspension may not re-enroll at the Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ or any other Montana University System campus unless the student has been academically reinstated.
If a student is registered for an upcoming semester then placed on academic suspension, all future classes will be dropped and a hold placed on further registration until a reinstatement is transacted.
