Campus Sustainability Month

Celebrate Campus Sustainability Month at UM!
This October, the Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ is going all out to celebrate Campus Sustainability Month with a variety of events that promote sustainability, environmental awareness, and community engagement. Whether you're interested in wildlife conservation, reducing waste, or learning more about sustainable living, there’s something for everyone. Check out the exciting lineup of events and how you can get involved!
– October 9th | 2:00 - 4:00 PM
Kick off the month by joining Free Cycles and UM Sustainability for a free bike tune-up at the bear statue. Whether you're a daily bike commuter or just need a quick fix, this event is your chance to ensure your ride is in top shape! Plus, you'll have the opportunity to register your bike for added security.
– October 12th | 2:00 - 6:00 PM
As the Grizzlies hit the field, the Office of Sustainability is teaming up with Zero Waste Ambassadors to make this year's Homecoming Game a zero-waste event. Help divert waste by properly sorting your recyclables, compost, and landfill items, and keep an eye out for volunteers circulating the stadium to support the effort. Let’s show our commitment to sustainability while cheering on our team!
– October 15th | 11:30 AM - 1:30 PM
Living in Missoula means we share our environment with wildlife, including bears. Join us for the Bear Aware Fair, where UM student groups, People & Carnivores, Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks, and others will provide hands-on demos and displays. Learn bear safety, discover the latest bear-smart tips, and see how you can responsibly coexist with our wild neighbors.
– October 17th | 10:45 AM - 2:00 PM
Clean out your closet and refresh your wardrobe sustainably at our Fall Clothing Swap! Drop off your gently used fall and winter clothing and pick out some new (to you) pieces. Not only will you declutter, but you'll also help reduce waste by giving clothes a second life. Donations are accepted at several campus locations, and those who donate get early access to shop!
– October 22nd & 23rd | 12:00 - 1:00 PM
Take a guided tour of UM's sustainability projects! From solar panels to water conservation efforts, this lunchtime tour will showcase the ways UM is reducing its environmental impact. Meet us at the Arboretum interpretive signage for an outdoor experience that will leave you inspired to join the movement toward a greener campus.
– October 28th | 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM
Whether you're a seasoned transit rider or just curious about alternative transportation options, stop by the Transit Hub for some snacks and good conversation with UM's Transportation & Parking Services. Learn more about the sustainable commuting options available to you while enjoying a sweet treat!
– October 28th-31st
This Halloween, we're encouraging you to think sustainably with our Thrifted Halloween Costume Contest! Show off your creativity and resourcefulness by designing a costume made from thrifted or reused materials, and send us a picture to enter. Prizes for the most sustainable costumes include eco-friendly items like reusable bags, water bottles, and more. Submissions are open until October 31st, so start planning your spooky, sustainable outfit!
Get ready for a month of action and education!
