Research Interests

Primary current research area is kanshi, i.e. poetry written in classical Chinese by Japanese poets (seventh through early twentieth centuries).

Projects

Currently completing an anthology of annotated translations of kanshi (verse in classical Chinese by Japanese poets) from Japan's court period (7th-12th centuries)  in collaboration with Judith Rabinovitch, Karashima professor of Japanese, Ñý¼§Ö±²¥. Our second work on the poetry of this period, this will comprise some 200 poems by about 40 Japanese poets. Nearly all of the verse will be appearing in translation for the first time.
