Creating Your Homepage
Your site's homepage should, at a glance, convey the big picture or the main point of your site.
Description of Department or Unit
This is a VERY concise description of your site displayed prominently on the Homepage that can be seen without scrolling. Use this description to orient visitors to your site and possibly answer these three questions.
- What is the purpose of this site?
- What content does it contain?
- What can a visitor do on this site?
DO NOT USE A MISSION STATEMENT. Mission statements may be very important to you, the site owner, but they mean very little, if anything at all, to your site visitors. They should not be included on a site's homepage.
Factoids
Factoids are a great addition to a homepage and can be built using the Factoid Showcase Block in Cascade. They are visually interesting, and will quickly convey three or four important facts about your department and why visitors should be visiting your website. Use value-oriented language for Factoids that communicate what a site visitor can expect to get from the Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ experience.
