Rural Curriculum Overview
Rural Medicine Rotations
In addition to the core rural medicine curriculum, we offer additional experiences including rural continuity clinics, a Rural Intensive Track, and a American Indian/Alaska Native Healthcare Track. The rural curriculum and training opportunities are the same for both Missoula and Kalispell.
Strengths of this experience:
- Excellent opportunities to experience full-scope family medicine in a variety of settings
- Residents select their rural sites and tailor the rotation experience to their goals
- Enthusiastic teaching by engaged rural faculty
- Opportunity for rural rotations at Indian Health Service and Tribal Health sites
- Housing and small travel stipend provided for rural rotations
- Rural Continuity Clinic
- PGY2 and PGY3 residents can apply to do a portion of their longitudinal continuity clinic at satellite sites of our main clinics in Seeley Lake, MT (Missoula residents) or Hungry Horse, MT (Kalispell residents). Residents staff a weekly clinic session at these sites which are approximately one hour from our main clinics, and a travel stipend is provided. They follow a continuity panel and experience primary, urgent, and procedural care an hour from the nearest hospital.
