It is the policy of the University to allow for the purchase or reimbursement of electronic communication devices and/or services for use by employees to conduct official University business. Electronic communication devices and/or services are defined as wireless phones, hand-held devices, wireless hot spots and home internet services. Procurement of such devices and/or services will be authorized ONLY when the job responsibilities require the employee to be accessible at all times.
When Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ departments make the decision to purchase for their employees University owned cell-phones, hand-held and hot spot devices, the dept. will work with the State of Montana contracted Verizon Wireless representative and the UM/Verizon Liaison in Human Resource Services.

ECD Allowance Form (Electronic Communication Device)
When Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ departments reach an agreement that an employee may use there personal cell phone for official University business, the department may decide to provide an allowance to the employee. It is a taxable allowance on the employee’s bi-weekly paycheck. Typically, the amount does not exceed $50 per month and the amount would be determined by the supevisor.
The ECD Allowance Form is available HERE. Complete the form with all necessary signatures and submit it to Human Resource Services. This allowance must be renewed every fiscal year prior to July 1st.
