Description
New drugs and new guideline recommendations continue to affect medical practice. This program will provide updates on the management of menopause-associated vasomotor symptoms, treatment of diabetes, and recommendations for antimicrobial stewardship. Information on biosimilars, biologic products, and interchangeability will be presented. In addition, an update from the Montana Board of Pharmacy will be provided.
Goal
The goal of this program is to discuss new drugs, compare them to other agents in the same pharmacological and/or therapeutic class, and discuss where these new agents fit into disease state management. In addition, an update of federal and Montana state pharmacy laws will be provided
Objectives
At the conclusion of this program, the participant should be able to:
- Compare the mechanism of action, efficacy, cost, and side effect profiles of two FDA-approved nonhormonal medications for menopause-associated vasomotor symptoms (VMS).
- List one off-label nonhormonal medication and one non-drug therapy to treat menopause-associated VMS.
- Discuss recent Administrative Rule changes impacting pharmacists and explain future rule cleanup efforts.
- Compare relevant bills in the 2025 legislative session that impact the practice of pharmacy in Montana.
- Evaluate the latest clinical evidence supporting the use of specific diabetes medications in managing cardiorenal outcomes
- Discuss how to incorporate cardiorenal protection into personalized diabetes treatment strategies.
- Differentiate biologic and biosimilar products.
- Distinguish between biosimilar and interchangeable products.
- Analyze strategies to reduce inappropriate antibiotic prescribing.
- Assess the appropriateness of antibiotic prescriptions in an outpatient setting using clinical guidelines and patient-specific factors to guide decision-making.

Skaggs School of Pharmacy at The Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. This is a knowledge-based activity. The Universal Activity Number (UAN) for the Recent Drug Development portion is #0035-0000-25-018-L01-P, and approved for 4 hours or 0.40 CEUs for Pharmacists. The Universal Activity Number for the Recent Law portion is #0035-0000-25-019-L03-P/T, and approved for 1 hour or 0.10 CEUs for Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians. In order to receive credits, participants must sign in to the presentation, view the entire presentation, and complete the program evaluation. CE credits will be uploaded to CPE Monitor within 60-days after the program.
