Materials Required by the Department of History
In addition to the application materials required by the Graduate School, the Department of History also requires:
- GRE scores are not required. International Students may need to submit TOEFL, IELTS, or MELAB. See the section of the Graduate School web site.
- Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended.
- Three (3) letters of recommendation.
- A Statement of Purpose (2-3 pages) describing your background, research interests, professional goals, and reasons for choosing the Department of History at the Ñý¼§Ö±²¥. Please also indicate the faculty members with whom you are interested in working.
- A writing sample (preferably a substantial piece of historical writing based on original research).

Application Deadlines for the History Department
MA
- Deadline for MA (Fall Semester start): Complete applications received by February 1 will be considered for teaching assistantships and fellowships. Complete applications received by May 1 will be considered for admission. After May 1, space permitting, applications will be considered for admission on a rolling basis until July 31.
- Deadline for MA (Spring Semester start): Complete application packet must be received by October 15.
PhD
- Deadline for PhD (Fall Semester start): Complete application must be received by February 1. All applications received by February 1 will be considered for teaching assistantships and fellowships.
