RIDGE RESEARCH AWARDS INFORMATION

Our annual Ridge Scholarship awards up to $1,000 per awardee for research and creative projects at the intersection of health/healthcare and the humanities. Review complete information here.
- Eligibility: Qualified graduate and upper-division undergraduate Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ from all disciplines are encouraged to apply.
- Library Resources: Projects must utilize materials from the Ridge Library Collection.
- Intersectional Inquiry: We seek projects that engage both health/healthcare and the humanities. All applicants must be able to articulate the relationship of the humanistic content of their project to health and/or healthcare.

- Undergraduate Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ must have completed at least two years of college and have junior or senior standing at the Ñý¼§Ö±²¥.
- Graduate Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ must be officially enrolled in a master's or doctoral program.
- All applicants must have sufficient background in their discipline to conduct meaningful research that utilizes the resources of the Ridge Collection and the ability to develop and carry out a research project or creative work under the guidance of a faculty mentor.
- Applicants may be pursuing any major field of study and must have at least a 3.2 overall GPA.
- Undergraduate Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ must be enrolled for a minimum of 12 credits and graduate Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ for 9 credits in the semester(s) during which the research and/or creative work will be undertaken.

These are the materials you will need to prepare for the portal. Please have them ready. You must complete the application in a single session.
- A cover sheet (form provided by IHH)
- A brief description (approximately 3-5 pages) of the proposed project, including the objectives of the research and creative work (where applicable) including its relationship to health or healthcare and Humanities (broadly construed), and a plan of how the research will be organized and the work completed, and how the resources of the Ridge Collection will be used
- An abstract of no more than 250 words that summarizes the proposal and the methods involved; the abstract should be designed to convince the reader-judge of the project’s merit
- A current transcript
- A letter of support from the faculty mentor

Proposals will be judged by Institute of Humanities and Health board members assessing the extent to which they:
- Provide a sound thesis and rationale for the project
- Demonstrate originality
- Note the significance and/or contribution of the work
- Are written in a clear and understandable manner
- Articulate the relationship between the humanities and health and/or healthcare in the proposed project
- Meet all requirements noted in these guidelines

- Awards will be announced in late spring.
- Scholars meet with Librarian at the Ridge Library to discuss their project and available resources; the first 50% of the award amount provided
- Successful applicants are expected to make a presentation about their research and/or creative work at a Ridge Scholar Panel of GradCon typically in late February/early March (although applicants with meritorious projects with a slightly later completion date will be considered for presentation in conjunction with later or a Ridge Symposium).
