Become a Docent
-
Docents are volunteers who conduct interactive tours of the museum for schools, Ñý¼§Ö±²¥, and the general public of all ages.
They also conduct research into 12,000+ art items in the MMAC Permanent Collection. Docents come from all types of backgrounds; some have art qualifications, some have no formal art education, but all share a passion for art in its many forms.
They endeavour to stimulate curiosity and encourage discussion of how art has impacted world history, our daily lives, and the human condition.
-
MMAC offers free, public docent-led tours. For further info, visit our Tours page.
-
Docents are recruited if they are enthusiastic about art even if they have no formal art training or qualifications. Training will be provided.
Training will include:
- Provision of a mentor who will help the new docent for as long as needed.
- New docent training sessions at least twice during the year.
- Shadowing several experienced docents for 1-5 tours, before or after new docent training. All new docents are expected to attend new docent training.
- Orientation and training for each new exhibition by the MMAC director, curator or exhibition artist.
- Participation in docent "Round Gallery" meetings.
