Reading is Leading
The Mortar Board national project, Reading is Leading, was established as the permanent national project in 2002. Since then, Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ have been dedicated to serving literacy needs across the nation. Chapters are expected to complete at least one literacy-themed project each year either alone, as a part of section project or while joining with a national or international organization.
In the past, Mortar Board members have pursued this initiative by reading to young elementary children in the Missoula community. Mortar Board is also teaming up with First Book, an organization which seeks to overcome illiteracy by distributing brand-new books to low-income families and organizations. First Book has donated over 90 million books to date.
